Carrols Restaurant Group, Inc., operating through its subsidiaries, including Carrols Corporation, is one of the largest restaurant companies in the United States, operating three restaurant brands in the quick-casual and quick-service restaurant segments with 554 company-owned and operated restaurants in 16 states as of December 31, 2007, and 30 franchised restaurants in the United States, Puerto Rico and Ecuador. Carrols Restaurant Group owns and operates two Hispanic Brand restaurants, Pollo Tropical and Taco Cabana. Carrols Restaurant Group is also the largest Burger King franchisee, based on number of restaurants, and has operated Burger King restaurants since 1976.
Pollo Tropical began its history in 1988.  The chain started in Miami, Florida and has consistently grown to a total of 82 units as of January 2008.  Pollo has been growing outside of its core South Florida markets for the past 3 years.  It has seen tremendous success, and continues to have plans for major growth in the west coast of Florida (i.e. Tampa, Naples, Cape Coral, etc.), other parts in central/northern Florida, as well as the northeast (Brooklyn, NY; Queens, NY; Bronx, NY; N. Bergen, NJ; and other parts of Jersey as well as Philadelphia). 

What makes this brand so unique is its blend between managing a full-service kitchen with a fast-food counter.  Pollo makes many of its products from scratch.  This requires major preparation in the kitchen area (dicing, slicing, sautéing, heating, etc.), as well as a full time grill person to ensure the many products are being monitored and turned at just the right time.

 

The company plans to build another 10 stores this year, 15 next year, and another 18 the year after.  We plan to be double our size by the end of 2011.  Many opportunities abound for people who are good at delivering results, and have the capacity and desire to stretch their capabilities and skill sets.   Over 45% of Pollo managers began with the company as an hourly employee.  Many others have grown with the company over the years and have taken on key corporate positions from human resources and marketing, to IT and operations support.
